Customized music &
minimal announcements
for couples getting
married on Long Island
If you're planning a wedding on Long Island, you already know how much is riding on the entertainment. The venue is booked, the flowers are picked, the food is handled. But the DJ? That's the person who controls the actual feel of your night. The energy. The flow. Whether your guests hit the floor or stare at their phones.
We're Non-Traditional Wedding DJs, and we work on Long Island regularly. We're based in NYC and have DJs who know the area, know the venues, and know how to run a Long Island wedding without turning it into a cheesy club night or an awkward school dance.
Here's everything you need to know before you book a DJ for your Long Island wedding.
Yes, We Actually Work on Long Island
We service weddings across Nassau County, Suffolk County, the Hamptons, the North Fork, and everywhere in between. Our DJs have worked at estates in the Hamptons, vineyard weddings on the North Fork, and elegant ballroom receptions in Garden City. We know Long Island's wedding scene, and we know the venues.
Our NYC DJs travel out to Long Island for weddings. Travel fees apply depending on the venue location, and we're upfront about those from the start.
Why Do Couples on Long Island Book Us?
Most couples reach out because they're worried about ending up with a DJ who's going to narrate their entire wedding like it's a high school prom. You know the type. The one who yells "PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR" or announces every single moment like it's a sporting event.
That's not us. Here's what we actually do differently.

Customized Music
Your wedding will sound like you, not like every other wedding that DJ worked last weekend
You tell us what you listen to, what you love, what you hate, and we build from there
You can share a Spotify playlist, send us references, or just have a conversation with your DJ
We won't play cliche wedding songs unless you actually want them
Minimal Announcements
We don't grab the mic every five minutes
During dancing, your DJ stays quiet and lets the music do the work
We make the announcements that actually matter (introductions, speeches, cake cutting) and then get out of the way
Nobody has ever complained that their DJ didn't talk enough
DJs Who Actually Mix
No awkward dead air between songs
We blend tracks together so the energy stays consistent
We read the room and adjust in real time, so the floor stays full
What Makes a Long Island Wedding Different?
Long Island weddings tend to be a big deal. Venues are often large, guest lists run long, and the expectations are high. Here are a few things that matter specifically for LI weddings.
Venue Size and Sound
Long Island has everything from intimate winery spaces on the North Fork to massive ballrooms in Nassau County that hold 300+ guests. The right DJ comes prepared with the right sound setup for the room. A small vineyard terrace needs a completely different approach than a Grand Ballroom at Oheka Castle.
At Oheka Castle specifically, for example, load-in logistics, sound restrictions, and room acoustics all require a DJ who has done their homework. We always coordinate with venue coordinators ahead of time so nothing is a surprise on the day.
Lighting Matters More Than You Think
Long Island reception halls tend to be large, which means the right lighting setup can completely transform the space. Uplighting along the walls, intelligent dance floor lights, and the right color palette can turn even the most basic ballroom into something that looks amazing in photos. We offer lighting add-ons through our services page that pair directly with DJ packages.
Long Island Crowds Are Enthusiastic
That's a good thing. LI wedding guests tend to want to dance and have a good time. The key is knowing when to build and when to pull back, not just blasting high-energy music from the first slow song. A good DJ reads the room and earns the dance floor naturally rather than forcing it.
Long Island Wedding Venues We Know
Long Island has a wide range of wedding venues, from oceanfront estates to historic manor houses to vineyard barns. Here are some of the types of venues we work at regularly across Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Nassau County
Garden City ballrooms and hotel receptions
North Shore estates and private properties
Historic venues in Old Westbury and Muttontown
Suffolk County and the Hamptons
Vineyard and farm weddings on the North Fork (Mattituck, Cutchogue, Riverhead)
Oceanfront venues in the Hamptons and Montauk
Estate weddings in Southampton and East Hampton
Destination and Scenic Venues
Long Island has no shortage of scenic spots. Waterfront venues on the Sound or the Atlantic add a logistical layer (outdoor ceremonies, noise restrictions, weather backup plans) that an experienced DJ handles without drama.
What Does a Wedding DJ Actually Do on Long Island? (And What Should They Do?)

This is a fair question, especially if you're comparing DJs for the first time. Here's a breakdown of what you should expect a professional DJ to handle.
Before the Wedding
A planning call (or Zoom) with you to understand your vision
A music worksheet or questionnaire to capture your must-plays, do-not-plays, and overall vibe
Coordination with your venue and planner about load-in time, layout, and logistics
A pre-wedding check-in call to go over the full timeline
During the Ceremony
Music for guest arrival and processional
Microphone for your officiant
Postlude music as guests exit
During Cocktail Hour
Ambient background music that matches the mood without dominating conversation
Usually in a separate space from the reception room
During the Reception
Dinner music
First dance, parent dances, and other special dances
Dance floor set for the rest of the night
MC duties for introductions, toasts, and timeline cues
A solid DJ manages all of this while staying out of the spotlight. The event should feel seamless, not like someone is constantly reminding you there's a DJ in the room.
How Much Does a Wedding DJ Cost on Long Island?
Long Island wedding DJ pricing varies a lot depending on experience, what's included, and how far the DJ is traveling. Here's a general range to set expectations.Keep in mind: Long Island venues often require vendors to carry liability insurance and be on an approved vendor list. Make sure your DJ is covered. We carry liability insurance for all of our events.
A wedding DJ on Long Island costs between $2,000 and $4,000.

DJ vs. Band: Which Is Right for a Long Island Wedding?
This comes up a lot. Bands are great, but they come with tradeoffs that don't always get talked about enough.
DJ | Live Band | |
Cost | Lower | Much higher (average $10,000 to $20,000+) |
Song variety | Nearly unlimited | Limited to what they rehearse |
Sound consistency | Consistent | Varies night to night |
Setup space needed | Small | Large |
Breaks | None (continuous music) | 1 to 3 breaks per night |
Personalization | Very high | Limited |
What your guests will do | Dance | Stand and watch |
A live band is a great experience for certain weddings. But if you have specific songs you want played, a long guest list with diverse tastes, or a tighter budget, a DJ gives you more flexibility. Some couples combine both, using a band for part of the night and a DJ for others.
We also work alongside live musicians if you want that hybrid approach.
According to The Knot's wedding planning research, couples spend significantly less on a DJ than a live band while often achieving the same or better dance floor results.
How to Choose a Wedding DJ on Long Island: 5 Things That Actually Matter

1. Do They Listen More Than They Talk?
In your first call with a DJ, pay attention. Are they asking about you and your wedding, or are they just pitching themselves? A DJ who listens in the meeting will listen at your wedding too.
2. Can You Choose Your DJ?
Some companies assign you whoever is available. We let all of our couples choose their own DJ and meet with them before booking. That connection matters.
3. Do They Have a Music Planning Process?
A good DJ doesn't just show up and wing it. Ask about how they handle music planning. We use a Google Doc worksheet after booking that lets you clearly document your preferences, and then we go through it together on a planning Zoom call three weeks before the wedding.
4. Are They Insured?
Most Long Island venues require vendors to carry general liability insurance. Always ask.
5. Do They Understand Venue Logistics?
Long Island venues can have specific rules about setup, sound levels, load-in times, and vendor access. An experienced DJ who has worked the Long Island market will know what to expect and won't be caught off guard on your wedding day.
How the Process Works
Here's what it looks like from first contact to wedding night.
1. Discovery Zoom Call Jump on a Zoom call with one of our DJs and a member of our team. Ask everything you want. Get a feel for the DJ.
2. Booking Sign the contract, pay the deposit, and your date is locked. You get to choose your DJ.
3. Google Doc Music Worksheet After booking, we send you a detailed worksheet so you can document everything: music you love, songs you want to avoid, special moments, timeline notes.
4. Planning Zoom Call Three weeks before the wedding (or whenever you're ready), you jump on a final call with your DJ to go over everything together.
5. The Wedding Your DJ shows up early, sets up, coordinates with your venue and planner, and handles the night from start to finish.
FAQs: Long Island Wedding DJ

How far in advance should I book a DJ for a Long Island wedding?
For a Saturday wedding in May, June, September, or October, try to book at least 10 to 12 months in advance. These are the most popular dates and they go fast. For other months or weekdays, six to eight months is usually enough. If your wedding is coming up soon, it's worth reaching out anyway since cancellations do happen.
Do you charge a travel fee for Long Island weddings?
Travel fees depend on where your venue is located and which DJ you choose. For venues farther east in Suffolk County or the Hamptons, there will usually be a travel fee. We are always transparent about this before you commit to anything.
Can we meet our DJ before booking?
Yes. We want you to meet your DJ before you book. Almost all of our couples do a Zoom call with their DJ first. The match between you and your DJ matters, and we take that seriously.
Do you handle the MC duties too, or just the music?
Both. Your DJ handles all MC responsibilities: introductions, announcing speeches, coordinating with your planner on the timeline, and guiding guests through the event. We just do it without the over-the-top announcer voice.
What happens if our DJ gets sick or has an emergency?
We have a roster of about 30 DJs. In the unlikely event of a last-minute emergency, we have coverage. This is one of the real advantages of working with a company rather than a solo DJ.
Do you bring your own sound equipment?
Yes. We bring everything: speakers, microphones, mic stands, and all necessary cables. You don't need to coordinate any rental equipment for the DJ setup.
Can we add a photo booth or lighting?
Yes. We offer photo booths and lighting as add-ons. You can see everything we offer on our services page. A lot of couples add at least one of these, and it makes a real difference in both the guest experience and the photos.
What if we have guests who don't speak English?
We have bilingual DJs and MC options. If your wedding will include guests or family members who are more comfortable in another language, let us know during the discovery call and we will find the right fit.
