Westchester County sits right above New York City and it does not get nearly enough credit as a wedding destination. It is close enough that guests from the city can get there easily, but the moment you leave the highway you feel like you are somewhere completely different. Rolling hills, historic estates, serious food. It is a genuinely great place to get married.
We have worked a lot of weddings up here. Here is what we have seen and what we think couples should know before they start booking.
Why Westchester County Wedding Venues Keep Attracting NYC Couples
The short answer is access. You do not have to fly anyone in. You do not have to ask guests to clear a full weekend. Most Westchester venues are 30 to 60 minutes from Manhattan, and Metro North runs directly there. That matters a lot when your guest list is mostly city people with jobs and kids and limited patience for logistics.
But convenience is only part of it. The venues themselves are genuinely beautiful. A lot of the big estates up here were vacation homes for wealthy New Yorkers a century ago. That history shows up in the architecture, the grounds, and the overall feel. You get something that looks old and established without having to go upstate for a full weekend retreat.
If you are choosing between a Manhattan hotel ballroom and a Westchester estate, the Westchester option often gives you more outdoor space, more visual interest, and more personality, for a comparable investment.
The Best Westchester County Wedding Venues We Have Worked
Blue Hill at Stone Barns

If you have done any research on Westchester weddings, you have probably come across Blue Hill at Stone Barns. It is genuinely in a category of its own.
The venue sits on an 80 acre working farm in Pocantico Hills, on land that was once part of the Rockefeller estate. The ceremony usually takes place in an outdoor courtyard surrounded by stone buildings and open farmland. Cocktail hour moves to the ground floor.
Then the reception takes place upstairs in the Hay Loft, a large reception room with dramatic stone walls and a warm, intimate feel for a space that seats up to 260.
The food is extraordinary. This is a two Michelin star restaurant that also hosts weddings, and you feel that in every course. Couples who care about what their guests eat and drink will not find a better option in the metro area.
A few things to know:
Saturday dates in peak season book well over a year in advance
The venue fee and food and beverage minimums are significant. This is a luxury venue and it is priced accordingly
Guest transportation is something to plan for early. There are no overnight accommodations on site, so couples usually arrange shuttles from a central location or direct guests to hotels in Tarrytown or White Plains
We work Blue Hill at Stone Barns more than any other DJ company in the area. The team there is excellent and events run smoothly.
Tappan Hill Mansion by Abigail Kirsch

Tappan Hill Mansion is one of the more recognizable venues in Westchester County, and for good reason. The property features sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, two separate ballrooms, and a traditional estate feel that is elegant without being stiff.
Inside, there is a painting of Mark Twain that guests always notice. The history of the building is real and you feel it in the details.
The venue is operated by Abigail Kirsch, one of the most respected catering companies in New York. The kitchen at Tappan Hill is a central production hub for their other venues across the region, which tells you something about the scale and quality of what they do. The staff is large and experienced, and weddings here tend to run on time. It can feel more structured than some couples want, but the service is consistent and professional.
If you want a traditional Westchester wedding with classic architecture, outdoor views, and a proven team behind it, Tappan Hill is a very strong choice.
Whitby Castle

Whitby Castle in Rye is exactly what it sounds like. It is a stone castle on a golf course with sweeping views of Long Island Sound. It has a Disney aesthetic that is not really our style to be honest.
But we will say this: the team running events there is genuinely great. The manager, Ralph, and his crew take real pride in how weddings are run, and it shows. Our DJs enjoy working there because events are organized and the staff is a pleasure to work with.
If the venue fits your vision, you will be in good hands.
What the Flow of a Westchester Wedding Actually Looks Like
Most Westchester estate weddings follow a pretty clear pattern, and it is worth walking through so you know what you are planning for.
Ceremony: Usually outdoors on the grounds when the weather allows. Many venues have beautiful outdoor ceremony spaces, and couples take full advantage of them.
Cocktail hour: Typically held on a different part of the property while the ceremony space flips or the reception room is prepared. This is often where guests get their first real look at the space and the food starts coming out.
Dinner and dancing: Most Westchester venues have large, well-appointed reception rooms. The transition from dinner to dancing is one of the most important moments of the night, and how it is handled matters. We focus on building that energy naturally so dancing feels like an organic extension of the evening rather than a forced pivot.
Throughout all of this, we are focused on customized music and minimal announcements. The night should feel like your night, not a series of DJ prompts.
How to Choose a Wedding DJ for a Westchester County Venue
What should you be looking for?
You want a DJ who has worked in these spaces before. Not because the technical side is complicated, but because experience in the environment means fewer surprises on your wedding day. Familiarity with venue staff, load-in logistics, and how events typically flow makes everything smoother.
You also want someone who is going to tailor the music to you specifically. Not to the venue, not to what is popular, but to your actual taste. Every couple has a different vision for what the night should sound like, and a good DJ respects that completely.
Our services page covers what we offer and how we work with couples from the first call through the wedding day.
How do announcements work at an estate wedding?
The formal settings at a lot of Westchester venues can push toward a more ceremonial, announcement-heavy approach. We push back on that gently but consistently. Necessary announcements get made clearly. Beyond that, the DJ stays out of the way and lets the music do the work.
Do we need to visit the venue before booking a DJ?
It helps but it is not required. If you have already toured the venue and have a sense of the layout, we can work from that. We also ask the right questions during your planning call to make sure we understand the space and how the night is structured.

Getting Your Guests to Westchester
This is one of the most underplanned parts of a Westchester wedding, especially for couples with a lot of New York City guests.
A few options that work well:
Private shuttle buses from a central Manhattan pickup point. This is the most common approach and takes the guesswork out of it for guests
Metro North stops at several Westchester towns. Many historic venues are a short rideshare from local train stations
Driving with parking on site. Most Westchester estate venues have ample parking, which is a real advantage over city venues
Plan for this early and communicate it clearly in your invitations or wedding website. Guests who are confused about transportation skip the after party.
FAQs About Westchester County Weddings
What are the best Westchester County wedding venues near New York City?
For couples who want a luxury experience, Blue Hill at Stone Barns is the top choice in the area. For traditional estate elegance, Tappan Hill Mansion by Abigail Kirsch is one of the most established and well run venues in the region.
How far is Westchester County from Manhattan?
Most of the major wedding venues in Westchester are 30 to 60 minutes from Midtown Manhattan by car. Metro North also runs directly to several towns in the county, making it accessible for guests who do not drive.
What does a wedding DJ cost in Westchester County?
Professional wedding DJ packages in the New York area typically range from $2,000 to $4,000. The exact price depends on the DJ, the scope of the event, and any travel involved.
How far in advance should we book a venue like Blue Hill at Stone Barns?
For peak season Saturdays from May through October, booking over a year in advance is strongly recommended. The most popular dates go quickly. Weekday and off-peak dates are more available and sometimes offer more flexibility on pricing.
Do we need a DJ who has worked at our specific Westchester venue before?
It is a meaningful advantage. A DJ who knows the venue understands the layout, the staff, the timing, and the logistics. That familiarity reduces friction on the day and means you are not the one answering questions. We have worked extensively at Blue Hill at Stone Barns and Tappan Hill Mansion, and are familiar with a number of other Westchester properties.
Can we choose all of our own music?
Yes, completely. Some couples hand over a full playlist. Some give us a direction and trust us to fill in the gaps. Most land somewhere in between. You can learn more about how that process works on our FAQ page.
What makes Westchester weddings different from New York City weddings?
The space, mainly. You get outdoor ceremony options, real parking, grounds for photos, and venues with architectural character that most city spaces cannot match. The tradeoff is logistics, specifically getting guests there and back. Once you solve transportation, most couples find the experience significantly more relaxed than planning a city wedding.
Is Whitby Castle good for non-traditional couples?
The venue has a very specific aesthetic that leans formal and fairy tale. Whether it fits depends entirely on your vision. The event team there is excellent and runs a tight, professional operation. If the look resonates with you, the execution will be strong.
